On May 31, local time, China’s 14th batch of officers and men of the Peacekeeping Corps of Darfur, Sudan, after more than half a month of intense construction, successfully completed the infrastructure upgrade and reconstruction of airport terminal halls and defense fortifications in Duayin City. The mission was highly praised by the UN peacekeepers and the local government.
Due to the aging of the airport facilities, runway pits, the destruction of the surrounding security facilities, and frequent thefts, Dui’an’s security services were unable to meet normal flight operation needs and were once faced with the difficulties of being shut down. However, as the land roads were destroyed or flooded by floods during the rainy season, the airport became the only external channel in the region - both a life channel and a strategic channel. As the rainy season approached, Hammand, the director of the Airport Management Office, had to urgently seek help from Chinese engineers.
In order to stop the fighting before the onset of the rainy season, Chinese peacekeeping officers and men organized professional and technical forces to carry out on-site investigations at the first time. They also formulated scientific and rational construction plans overnight and quickly carried out engineering operations. As this construction task coincides with the critical period of equipment inspection and preparation in the second quarter, the peacekeeping officers and men have continued construction at a high temperature of 40°C during the day for more than 8 hours. At night, they return to the camp area to work overtime and overhaul equipment, ready to meet equipment inspections at any time. .
After more than half a month of continuous fighting, this peacekeeping team has built a total of five 300m2 terminal halls, more than 2,000m2 of flattened venues, and more than 200m of exterior character-shaped fortifications...the airport has taken on a new look.
